Carlingford - Rostrevor

Weekend Campervan trip Idea

2 night trip

Day 1 Friday

We packed up our Campervan and made our way to Carlingford. This took us approximately 1 hour 50 mins from were we live. Our park up was the most perfect one (we think anyway!) its on the Carlingford Marina. For motorhomes and campervans it is 15 euro per night. Included with your payment are shower and toilet facilities.

Carlingford Marina is a simply stunning stopover location with views over the Mourne mountains and Carlingford Lough. Location is perfect with a 10 minute walk into Carlingford town and to the other side you have the Greenway which you can walk or bike your way as far in as Newry.

We had our bikes packed on the camper so we decided to cycle part of the Greenway down to Omeath and back again. We had a quick drink stop at the The Grand Central Hotel, Omeath. So relaxing! I can only imagine this place on a hot summers day - bliss. When we arrived back at the marina we had another stop at the Rabelo restaurant and bar. We then had a lovely evening in Carlingford town, opting instead of a sit down meal we had amazing fish and chips Feeleys (it never dissapoints!)

Day 2 - Saturday

We got up early and had an amazing breakfast at the Rabelo on the Marina, then headed on our way to Rostrevor. The journey from Carlingford to Rostrevor is approximately 35 mins. It takes you on a spectacular visual journey of nature. Stunning area of Ireland north and south!

Our stop for the night was Kilbroney Caravan park, £30.80 per night with electric hookup, toilet and shower facilities. It is located at the bottom of Slieve Martin and the mountains of the Mourne, overlooking Carlingford Lough. with walks, hikes and bikes trails there are an abundance of things to do here! We opted to take the bikes around the many trails with breathtaking views. It was great to avail of the hot showers after and make our way into Rostrevor town.

I have to say after Donegal, Rostrevor to me is a hidden gem. I have visited here many times and the people are so friendly and welcoming. We had a meal in The Rostrevor Inn and every time it is so delicious and reasonable Rostrevor is like stepping back in time. Cosy, warm and delightful.
